- Cheese red velvet cake is much tastier than vanilla cake.
- Red velvet cake has an acidic(acrid) taste that comes from the use of buttermilk and vinegar as well as the cream cheese in the frosting.
- This natural tint may have been the source for the name “red velvet“, as well as “Devil’s food” similar names for chocolate cakes.
Cream cheese – 1/2 cup
Refined flour ( maida) – 1/2 cup + for dusting
Cochineal color – Few drop
Butter – ½ cup + for greasing
Caster sugar – bull cup + tsp
Cocoa powder – ¼ cup
Vanilla essence – 1 tsp
Salt – a pinch
Vinegar – ½ tsp
Eggs – 1
Eggs yolk – ½
How to Make Red Velvet Cake?
I use specific ingredients, certain amounts, and unique mixing techniques to produce the best red velvet cake recipe.
Begin by whisking the dry ingredients together, and then beat together the wet ingredients.
We’ll combine the two, add buttermilk and tint the batter red. More on food coloring below.
Preheat oven to 180° C.
Grease an 8-inch baking tin with some butter and dust with same flour.
Cream together butter and 1 cup castor sugar in a bowl with an electric beater(mixer).
Add cocoa powder, 1 tsp vanilla essence, cochineal, and salt, and whisk.
Add vinegar and whisk well. Break-in eggs and whisk.
Add flour and whisk well.
Transfer ¾ of batter into the grease baking tin, reserving the remaining, and level it out.
Take cream cheese in another bowl.
Add 3 tsp castor sugar, remaining vanilla essence and eggs yolk and whisk with an electric beater
Put the red velvet cream cheese mixture on top of the batter and level it out.
Spread remaining batter on top. Place the tin on the baking tray.
Place the baking tray in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 mins.
Remove from oven, cool, and remoulade.
